Terminology: “Aggregation”
Combining several small networks into a larger network
- 192.168.4.0/23 and 192.168.6.0/23 can be aggregated into 192.168.4.0/22
This is useful because it hides detailed information from places that don’t need to know
- The outside world needs to know that you use a large block of IP addresses
- They do not need to know the details about how you split it up into smaller blocks for different sites, different customers, etc.
